In Summary:

Through a collaborative and results-driven approach, the Interim HRD service that was provided enabled the client to overcome immediate challenges, optimise HR operations, and achieve significant cost savings. By aligning strategic recommendations with the client's objectives, a smooth transition was facilitated towards a sustainable HR operating model, poised for future growth and success.

Results:

  1. Cost Reduction: By transitioning to a retainer HR service model and streamlining operations, the client achieved a significant reduction in HR operating costs.

  2. Enhanced Efficiency: The implementation of a structured HR system and collaboration with the US HR team improved overall efficiency and effectiveness in managing HR functions.

  3. Sustainable Model: The recommended operating model ensured ongoing compliance and adaptability to future challenges, providing a solid foundation for long-term success.

Key Actions:

  1. Immediate Support – assumed responsibility for urgent tasks such as TUPE processes, restructuring and keeping up to date with changes to Covid-19 regulations relating to government updates as well as implementing wellbeing initiatives.

  2. Long-Term Strategy – conducted an assessment of the HR function to identify where there were opportunities to drive efficiencies and improvements.

  3. Recommendations – proposed a shift towards outsourcing the HR services with a retainer approach combined with the implementation of a tailored HR system to ensure ongoing compliance and operational efficiency.  Recommended any strategic work that fell outside of this scope of this organisation could be achieved through contract for services arrangement with a contractor or consultant with that area of expertise.

  4. Collaborative Approach – worked closely with the US HR team and the UK/Ireland Operations team to seamlessly integrate strategic functions and provide ongoing support as needed.

Solution implementation:

Recognising the urgency of the situation, I joined as an Interim HRD, and was engaged to provide immediate support whilst reviewing the current operating model. I became embedded into the organisation and supported the immediate requirements, which included navigating TUPE processes and restructuring initiatives. Simultaneously, I conducted an in-depth evaluation and proposed a sustainable long-term operating model that resulted in outsourcing the HR Services.

Client Overview and Challenge

A US (global) organisation employing 100 individuals across the UK and Ireland faced challenges with their HR operating model amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. With cost concerns heightening by widespread furloughing and the necessity for restructuring, the company sought a solution to optimize their HR functions while maintaining compliance and strategic focus.

The client's HR was functioning with one sole HR resource, whose breadth of responsibilities expanded from the administrative to the strategic. The existing model was unsustainable, costly, and lacked the capacity to address the evolving needs of the business.
